Reports have come out recently about the ending of the Doomtown: Reloaded between AEG and Pinnacle Entertainment Group today via this article.
June 21st, 2016
Dear Doomtown Community,
After the release of Blood Moon Rising AEG will be ending production of the Doomtown ECG and handing Doomtown back to Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Blood Moon Rising ties up this cycle of tales about Gomorra, with both closure on this story arc, and a little scene-setting for the town’s possible future. So it is a natural place to end.
Pinnacle does not have any immediate plans to continue with the Doomtown ECG product at this time, but may look to do so at some point in the future.
We wish to thank our friends at Pinnacle for their support and help with Doomtown over the last two years, as well as the many volunteers, external staff and partners that have helped make the game great. In particular we want to thank the fans and the players of Doomtown, who have an amazing passion and love for the game, and the world it is set in.
Pinnacle passed us this note to share with you: “The crew at AEG have done a great job with this new version of Doomtown and we appreciate all the excellent effort the designers, artists, staff, and demo team members have put into it. We’re very proud to be associated with it and hope that we’ll see it return one day.”
Blood Moon Rising is slated for release on 10 October. We will continue to release some story content for the website as well as to support organized play right through until the end of the year, so that those wanting to attend sheriff events or to run in-store events can do so.
We hope everyone has enjoyed the last couple of years in Gomorra, as always it has been a wild ride, and no matter how much trouble the citizens seem to find, the town will always hold a place in our hearts.
What does this mean for AEG?
With the sale of Legend of the Five Rings last September to Fantasy Flight Games and now the end of the rebooted Doomtown, I truly believe that AEG will stay in the board game market. They have done very well being a gateway to young designers looking to make a mark in the industry but they have a hard time holding on to fan bases for their CCG / LCG market.
I’ll have a whiskey tonight in honor of our comrades.
I can’t wait for next year and Gen Con 2017. I know I will see all of you in line at the Fantasy Flight Games booth for your copy of the Legend of the Five Rings LCG. I might even be cosplaying someone epic.
